Free Resources for Project Managers - Velopi Articles Part 1

15 April, 2014

Since its foundation, Velopi Ltd. has striven to provide the best support possible for people who want to develop careers in project management. We have developed a fine reputation over the years, thanks in part to our well-crafted project management courses. But the main reason our customers endorse us is because of our support in applying for professional project management certification and in helping out all the way to the exam itself.

Over the years we have built up a profound understanding of project management principles and the trials people face in obtaining project management qualifications. That understanding informs our articles, which are available on our web-site. Broadly speaking, these articles provide useful tips for project managers who are going through the process of obtaining a certificate in project management and also provide interesting insights into aspects of project management that are of interest to anyone who has to manage projects.

For people interested in project management, who are thinking of getting some sort of certificate in project management to help their career prospects, we offer several articles outlining how they should proceed. We recommend starting with “Career Paths for Project Managers” which provides a summary of how a novice to project management can get help with the basics, up to what a Project Management Professional (PMP)® can do to advance further. A similar article is “Custom Solutions” which highlights how Velopi can tailor its project management courses to reflect the project management processes and terminology used in specific companies.

If you are starting out, another article you should read is “Getting on the Project Management Ladder”. This outlines your options if you have little or no experience as a project manager. One of these is the Project Management Institute’s Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® accreditation. Find out more about this in “What is CAPM®?” Experienced project managers, without qualifications might be interested in the Irish QQI component certificate in project management. This is explained in “Project Management the QQI Way”.

Velopi’s flagship course is the Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification course. There is a bit of work involved obtaining this project management certificate, so a question we are often asked is “The PMP®: Why Bother?” Another dilemma facing project managers is whether to obtain PMP® or PRINCE2 project management certifications. Again we can provide assistance here in the article: “PMP® or PRINCE2?

We have not forgotten the experienced, certified project managers out there. You might find yourselves managing entire programs, instead of single projects. In that case, you might have asked yourself is “PgMP® – The Next Step?”

If you do decide to take a project management course and you are wondering if Velopi is the company to go with, some of our student support articles will make our case. Try “Project Management Training The Velopi Way” for starters. Here our Blended Learning Solution is explained. If our exam simulator is of interest, get a feel for what it looks like with “Velopi’s PMP® and CAPM® Exam Simulator”. Of course, at the back of your mind, you might think that getting PMP® certification is very straightforward and can easily be obtained without any help. Then we would strongly recommend reading “The PMP®: Going it Alone”.

Like all projects, getting the PMP® certificate needs to be planned, so we offer advice on that in “Studying for the PMP®”. We also explain how the exam is marked – “Marking the PMP® Exam” – and explain why “Situational Questions on the PMP® Exam” can really scupper someone’s attempt. Sadly, the PMP® exam has to be taken in a Pro-Metric centre, so we also explain where to go and what to expect on the day.

Reinforcing Velopi’s policy of supporting its students, we also explain what Professional Development Units are all about in “Project Management Certification: Professional Development Units”. Maintaining your project management credential is not as difficult as it seems from the raw requirements.

In between these career-related articles are ones focused on particular topics. We will outline these in our next index article to be published on Wednesday the 23rd of April.

If any of these articles has inspired you to consider a project management training course, please visit our training page to see what is on offer, or contact us directly to discuss your options on a one-to-one basis. For your convenience, we run our project management certification courses in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway.
