Project Management Training Courses

Velopi provides a range of courses, each designed to support practicing project managers at different stages of their careers. See our Career Ladder.

Courses at each stage are not prerequisites to more advanced certifications. However, previously completed courses can be leveraged for credit at the next step. Building on previous learning allows you the flexibility to manage your learning when and how you need it in your career.

Professional
When new project managers decide that project management is the future, they tend to seek out recognized accreditations to legitimize their roles as project managers. Velopi satisfies these requirements by offering the Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) “Component Certificate in Project Management (6N4090)”. This is a level 6 certification, based on the assessment of a portfolio of work and an essay assignment. It is ideal for project managers in the first year or two of their project management careers. Similarly, the “Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® Exam Preparation” course, is ideal for serious project managers, who have yet to clock up the experience necessary to sit the Project Management Professional (PMP)® exam, but still would like to have an accreditation from the Project Management Institute – the world’s foremost project management body. Practitioners with three or more years’ experienced managing projects are eligible to apply for the Project Management Professional (PMP)® exam. As an Authorized Training Partner (ATP) of the Project Management Institute, Velopi’s “Project Management Professional (PMP)® Exam Preparation” course, uses materials developed and approved by the Institute. All of Velopi’s trainers have received the Institute’s “Train-the-Trainer” instruction in order to deliver this material effectively.

Project managers are supposed to be given requirements and they are expected to produce deliverables. However, projects are often executed as part of wider initiatives and always have some sort of commercial imperative. Thus the logical progression for the advanced project manager is into programme and portfolio management. To facilitate these senior practitioners, Velopi offers a “Programme Management Profession (PgMP)® Exam Preparation” course, which introduces business strategy and benefits realization, allowing the senior project manager to understand the thinking of the senior business managers in the organization.

Of course, having a PMP® accreditation does not mean you have to stop developing your project management skills. On the contrary, there is scope to specialise in different areas of the discipline and different methodologies. As projects grow more complex and riskier, the demand for specialist project management skills grows, particularly in areas like Scheduling and Risk Management or Agile and Scrum methodologies.
